Although there are a number of LaTeX distributions available for the various platforms, the follow LaTeX distributions are considered dominant.

• All complete Linux distributions include LaTeX, typically the “texlive” version. Use the package manager of your distribution to search for “latex” and install the packages.

There are a large number of editors available that perform syntax highlighting or that are tailored specifically for LaTeX. Do a Google search or examine the selected ones on the local FTP site.
