Centre for Telecommunications Engineering for the Information Society (CeTEIS)

HISTORY

The Centre for Teletraffic Engineering for the Information Society was started in 1997 when Telkom was rolling out its Centres of Excellence. The purpose was and still is to build strong specialist centres, which focus on specific areas. In 2007 it was decided to change the acronym of CeTEIS to Centre for Telecommunication Engineering for the Information Society. CeTEIS is a joint collaboration with Department of Computer Science.

RESEARCH AREAS

Any research interest in the general field of Signal Processing and Telecommunications can be accommodated.

Research areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Distributed System Security, Digital forensics
  • Wireless sensor networks
  • Next Generation Wireless and Access Networks
  • Networks, Protocols and Coding (VoIP)

For the 2013-2015 period, CeTEIS will look at Cloud Security, Cloud Communication and Future Internet. Combined, we call it FutureCloud.

Telkom Postgraduate bursaries

Telkom will be conducting interviews in October with potential postgraduate students that would like to be considered for a Telkom bursary to do research at the UP Telkom CoE (CeTEIS).

It would be appreciated if you can forward you CV & academic results to Maria Nkomo nkomomd@telkom.co.za tel: 012 3112161, and CC Gys Booysen, booysegj@telkom.co.za , tel 012 3111952 and Jacques van Wyk (jhvanwyk@up.ac.za) by 8 October 2012.

Telkom will work out a schedule to visit the various universities & conduct the interviews, starting from 15 October 2012.

CeTEIS have a number of bursary opportunities available. The closing date is 30 October of each year.

Telkom CoE Postgraduate bursaries

Note: Students have to first apply for the Telkom Bursaries as above.

**IMPORTANT NOTE - The Maximum bursary values have changed and are now Hons R65k, Masters R80k(1) p.a. and for PhD R120k(1) p.a. * (1)Includes a R15k performance bonus, only payable after successful completion of all requirements.
