PuTTY is the recommended SSH client for access to the Linux cluster nodes. The following section will guide you through the process of downloading and installing PuTTY on a Microsoft Windows computer.
Click on this link to download the latest version of the installation program putty.exe. Remember where you save the file.
To install PuTTY on Windows XP, press the Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your Windows desktop and select Run… In the window that opens, press the Browse button and locate the file called putty.exe that you downloaded in the step above, then press OK. The Welcome to the PuTTY Setup Wizard window will appear. Click on the Next button.
To install PuTTY on Windows 7, click on the Windows icon and enter run in the search bar (the “run” option is hidden by default). In the window that opens, press the Browse button and locate the file called putty.exe that you downloaded in the step above, then press OK. The Welcome to the PuTTY Setup Wizard window will appear. Click on the Next button.
In the Select Destination Location window, click on the Next button as the default is sufficient.
In the Select Start Menu Folder window, click on the Next button as the default is sufficient.
In the Select Additional Tasks window, click on the checkbox for “Create a desktop icon for PuTTY”. Click on the radio button that reads “For all users”. Click on the Next button.
In the Ready to Install window, click on the Install button.
In the Completing the PuTTY Setup Wizard window, untick the “View Readme.txt” option and click on the Finish button.
